Fathom: set your meeting notes on autopilot so you can focus on the conversation.
Now that COVID is long over, conferences and events are back and stronger than ever before.
These are awesome opportunities for you to build connections, and return home with fresh new ideas.
But most people do it wrong when it comes to networking.
They attend the event but fail to focus on where it matters the most.
There are 17 practical secrets you should know that will change the way you network forever - like a pro.
Today I’m sharing 7 of them.
I’ll share 10 more in the next edition coming up Sunday.
So, stay tuned and bookmark this - thank me later :)
Ready?
Let’s go!
1. Skip the Talks
The magic often happens outside the lecture halls.
Networking in hallways or nearby locales like coffee shops is best to build powerful and more intimate connections.
So, skip a few talks.
You can watch them on YouTube after the sessions anyway :)
Focus on engaging in one-on-one conversations.
2. Plan Ahead
Schedule a few meetings to connect in person before you go to the event.
It’s probably a new connection for you.
So, send them a cold email that grabs their attention, make an intro, and pre-connect.
3. Show Up Early
A great hack to stand out is to arrive early at the breakout sessions.
It also applies to networking hours and after-party events.
You'll have easier access to the organizers and speakers.
One thing that also works great is talking to the technicians setting up the room.
They’re usually super cool and know a ton about the event which might help as well.
4. Chat While You Wait
Checking your mobile signals to others that you’re not open to discussion.
Instead, start conversations while waiting in lines.
At check-ins, for a cup of coffee, or in the restroom line.
Wherever possible.
You never know what these casual chats might lead to.

5. Follow-Up
After the event, send follow-up emails, but not right away.
Play it smart.
Wait for about five days, so your message doesn't get lost in the rush of everyone else following up after the conference.
Reconnect with your new contacts and see how you can help them first - without asking anything in return.
6. Create The Buzz
Don’t take notes like everyone else.
Tweet your insights and top takeaways live from the event.
It will help you remember key points as a note to yourself.
Moreover, it engages your audience and starts conversations online.
Win-Win.
7. Attend the Right Events
It sounds so obvious.
But I’ve seen many people attending the wrong conference so it’s worth checking again.
You have no time or energy to waste on events that have nothing to do with your goals.
Each event attracts a unique crowd.
So make sure it's the right crowd for you.
And that’s it
